  • Do I need to be at home to receive my meals?

In a word, no. But making things ultra-convenient and safe for you so that does unfortunately mean we need to ensure the meals are packaged in temperature controlled boxes.

You can recycle the cardboard boxes along with your usual recycling. The woolcool and ice blocks need to be returned to us, so please leave them out and we’ll collect them when we make your next delivery.

Like you, we hate unnecessary waste. So we’re working on a deposit scheme for re-usable packaging.

  • How do I dispose of my packaging?

FED. meals have been thoughtfully packaged in compostable trays with recyclable lids. The lids are clear so that you can see what’s inside. But WATCH OUT they are not heat proof. If you expose them to heat they will melt, just like your Mr Whippy on a hot day.

Your compostable trays will biodegrade in any compost environment (even a home composter). Sadly there is currently no council collection for these but those good folks at Z Energy has very helpfully put compostable bins in its service stations, so next time you’re filling up, you can also drop off your old empties. Good eh.

Alternatively, those amazing people at We Compost have put 50 compostable packaging collection bins across Auckland Central. They can be found outside cafes such as Kokako in Grey Lynn, and Crave in Morningside.

The clear lids are made from virgin grade PET which is fully recyclable in NZ. You can put these in your kerbside or public recycling and it will be collected by your local recycler.

Inside the boxes is a layer of insulation called Woolcool, a sustainable and highly effective natural insulation material that is made out of sheep’s wool. The best part about Woolcool is its recyclable, so please leave your Woolcool out for your delivery driver to collect when you get your next box and we’ll reuse it.

  • How will my order arrive?

If you are within our Auckland delivery zone, the FED. mobile will deliver your meals between 8 and 6 on your chosen day For North Island deliveries your meals will arrive between 8 and 6 on your chosen day via NZ Couriers.

  • What if I receive my meals and the frozen gel packs have thawed out?

As long as your meals are still "refrigerator-cold" to the touch, they can be safely stored in your fridge.

  • OUR PACKAGING

  • Is your packaging recyclable or compostable?

Yes! Packaging has been a really important consideration for us and we pride ourselves on using eco-friendly materials. Your compostable trays will biodegrade in any compost environment (even a home composter).

If returned to us our compostable packaging is taken to an industrial composter where it is turned into fertilizer.

Sadly there is currently no council collection for these but those good folks at Z Energy has very helpfully put compostable bins in its gas stations, so next time you’re filling up, you can also drop off your old empties. Good eh.
